All of the services they offer, both as attorneys and educational advocates for students with disabilities, fall under one category: they work to bridge the gap between parents and school districts. School districts provide educational services, but may not see eye-to-eye with families about what tools a student needs to be successful. Students are entitled to certain rights under the law. For example, students are entitled to a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). They work to ensure students’ rights are upheld.

Congregation Beth El’s Project Lev is a unique Religious School Program open to the Jewish Community for Children with Special Needs. Specifically, it is a program for children who are developmentally and/or physically challenged; children with autistic spectrum disorders, Fragile X Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and children with cognitive, physical, social and emotional challenges. The students we serve are of all grade levels and are both verbal and non-verbal communicators. Launched in September 2003 with a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, Project Lev is the only program of its kind and is open to all children in the Jewish Community. About 50 percent of their population comes from other synagogues in the community. Some require partial or full scholarship, which they readily provide. Their program has enriched not only the lives of our Project Lev children and their families, but also the lives of all those who are associated with the program, such as their cadre of volunteer student mentors. Their efforts have been nationally recognized by United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, they have been awarded the coveted Solomon Schechter Gold Award for excellence in the area of Special Needs.

Serra Law Group has been assisting clients on Elder and Disability Law issues for the past 30 years. They are also the only law firm in New Jersey to offer a service called SMART LAW. SMART LAW is their new and innovative approach to accessing legal services that combines the ease and affordability of a DIY on-line platform with the assurance you get from retaining a real law firm. Now you can create an entire estate plan, a Special Needs Trust, or file for guardianship from the comfort of your home using your smart phone!

They also provide legal services on a “limited” or “full” representation basis. For example, if you are seeking to become guardian for your child, you can choose to engage our firm on a “limited” basis which means we will prepare all the legal papers and letters you need to file the application with the court. Once the application has been accepted, you will then represent yourself, which in most cases will proceed uncontested. Their fee for this service is a fraction of what you would pay a lawyer to represent you for the entire matter. A perfect partnership that saves you thousands of dollars.
